The research group of archaeogenomics consists of scientists from the Estonian Biocentre at the Institute of Genomics, University of Tartu. Our research focuses on studying the genetic diversity of modern humans and evolutionary background using genome data from both contemporary and ancient humans in a global and regional context. We extract and process biomolecules from archaeological material and soil in the ancient DNA cleanroom and analyze data using the bioinformatic toolbox. To understand human demographic history and the spread of epidemics, genetic results are analyzed in the context of natural and anthropogenic environments to explore the interactions and co-evolution of biological and cultural evolution. Within the framework of the center of excellence, our task is also to coordinate the cooperation of disciplines involved in studies of human past.
