The Paleoecology and -climate Working Group includes researchers from the Quaternary Geology Department of the Institute of Geology at Taltech, whose research contributes to the achievement of the Center of Excellence's goals by creating the environmental background of the past. The expertise of the members of the group, who have worked together for a long time, includes a wide range of different palaeoecological, -geographical and -sedimentological research methods, which can be applied to study of geo- and biosphere processes and human activities, and the interactions between these since the end of the last ice age up until today.
The group's activities are focused on high-resolution reconstructions of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, vegetation, climate and environmental changes - both natural and man-made - in Estonia and the surrounding area during the past 15,000 years, by studying lake, bog and sea sediments.
The members of core group: Siim Veski, Tiiu Alliksaar, Leeli Amon, Atko Heinsalu, Merlin Liiv, Anneli Poska and Jüri Vassiljev with associated PhD students Anna Lanka, Ivan Krivokorin, Eliise Kara, Varvara Bakumenko.
The Head of Palaeoecology and -climate Group is Siim Veski.
