Stenbock House, 15 December 2014.
At today’s cabinet meeting the government decided to support the proposal of the Minister of Health and Labour to initiate a pilot project for implementing personalised medicine in health care from 2015–2018 and gave the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications the task of developing a financing plan for the project along with the areas of responsibility and cover sources by 13 February next year.
The primary objectives of the personalised medicine pilot project are to validate the applicability and efficiency of personalised medicine in clinical patient treatment in at least three areas; develop informatics and data infrastructure into an approach that is based on personalised or individual health behaviour, gene and other data at the prevention and treatment of diseases; and introduce the ecosystem of research and development and innovation to universities and companies for supporting the transfer of knowledge in personalised medicine.
