Genoomika ja siirdemeditsiini tippkeskuse seminar, 20. aprill kell 12:15 Omicumis
20. aprillil algusega kl 12.15 teeb Omicumis (Riia 23b) ettekande dr Ana Rebane teemal "The function of microRNAs in chronic inflammatory diseases"
Abstract: Chronic inflammatory diseases, such as allergic and autoimmune diseases constitute a major proportion of all diagnoses in all health care settings and comprise one of the largest burdens of disease worldwide. Current treatment options for these diseases are not always effective as well as adverse effects, such as the resistance to the drugs and antibodies neutralizing the drugs may develop. microRNAs (miRNAs) are post-transcriptional gene expression regulators that affect most of the biological processes in health and diseases. Our research is focused on the functions and targeting of miRNAs in inflammatory responses of the epithelium and includes studies about inflammatory skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, as well as asthma. We have demonstrated the capacity of multiple miRNAs, such as miR-146a, miR-155 and miR-10a to modulate inflammatory responses and proliferation of epithelial cells in association of multiple diseases using both in vitro cell culture and in vivo mouse models. Our results provide novel knowledge about the molecular mechanisms of chronic inflammatory diseases and can be potentially used to develop therapeutic approaches for better treatment of these conditions.
Seminar toimub inglise keeles.
